Weary tech journalists and eager Apple fans may have different reactions to this news, but both will be interested to hear that the company is unlikely to hold any more announcement events before the end of 2021.
Apple held its Unleashed press event last week, and made a number of important announcements: we got new AirPods and updated versions of the MacBook Pro, along with new colour options for the HomePod mini and a cheaper, voice-only Apple Music subscription plan. But that’s also all we’ll see from Apple this year, if we’re to believe the latest report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Gurman says he “doesn’t expect” a new event this year, nor any major product launches. This comes in contrast to Apple’s 2020 schedule, which saw three consecutive events in the months of September, October and November, followed by the (non-event) release of the AirPods Max in December. It was a busy year-end, to say the least.
Bigger news will have to wait until 2022, when Gurman expects Apple to unveil a new MacBook Air with an M2 processor and the “biggest design change since 2010”. Previous reports have also talked of a new iMac with a mini-LED screen.
